Has any one been able to make an ellipse rotate using an angled dimension parameter?
I am creating a sun louvre family using an extrusion with an ellipse profile and want to include a rotation parameter.
I have tried for some time without success.

Mark,
It's probably easiest to bring the ellipses in as a nested component and apply the angled parameter that way.

Thanks for your suggestion Renne, unfortunately it didn't work.

I've based my louvres on Chris Price's (aka Mr Spot) tutorial on creating nested and arrayed families. The angled dimension parameter is applied to the louvre profile during creation of the louvre component, which is then loaded into the louvres family as a nested component. However, in that example the louvres had a rectangular profile, not elliptical.
I can't find a way to apply an angled dimension between the horizontal reference plane and the horizontal axis of an ellipse.

Can anyone help?

What if you had a symbolic line in the nested ellipse?

Heres an example of an elliptical version with an adjustable angle for you to look at.

Thanks Renee. I tried several options with symbolic lines but couldn't get the ellipse sweep profile to lock on.

Chris, I downloaded your example but unfortunately I'm still running on Revit 7 (issues with rolling out new releases in a large company, altering templates, etc, etc).
Could you send a screen capture of the important bit?

I managed to get my hands on Revit 8 and open the file Chris sent...

Yesssss!

Excellent work Chris - very clever.
Create an ellipse profile family with parameters in separate file then load it into the sweep file, give it an angle, add an angle parameter and... viola - it works!

Many thanks.
