First I have an attachment about railing. I would like to put the railing on the short wall around the stairs, but the railing will only let me use the stairs as the host. Any ideas on how to do this?
Second I have a large home and would like to put the roof plan on a sheet but have it rotated 90 degrees. I have the home set up the from left to right but want the roof plan to go on from top to btm.
All help welcome.
Thanks

You will draw the railing over the stair, then set the properties of the railing to use the stair as the host, then adjust the rail heights in the railing family to be at the elevation of the wall.
As for rotating the view, just click on the crop region(turn one on iff its not) and rotate as desired)

I tried to turn the crops off/on different ways to be able to rotate a view with no success. Do I turn them off on the the plan on on the sheet? I was able to rotate the box around the drawing but the drawing did not rotate?

You want to rotate the View itself, not the View on the sheet. You should be able to rotate it just as Scott described.
I have occassionaly run into that same problem (where the Crop Region appears to rotate, but not the View itself), but I can't figure out how to duplicate it.
Try what Scott suggested again. Open your Roof View. Select View Properties. Turn on the Crop Region and Crop Region Visible boxes. Select Okay. Select the Crop Region. Select the Rotate tool. Rotate it 90 degrees. That should do it.
p.s. - if it doesn't appear to work, Refresh the view, just to be sure.

There should also be something like a Rotation On Sheet property in the View Properties dialog box, you could do it that way.
*edit* nevermind that only rotates the view on the sheet, and everything with it, including text.
If you select the crop region and use the rotate tool, the view will rotate. The crop region will appear to NOT have rotated, so you will need to adjust the crop region after rotating. However, all the text and everything should stay readable as it does in all other views.

Hi there,
Sounds like the bug that 7.0 had in the early builds. Hmmm

I opened the roof view, turned on the crop region and c.r. visible regions and said okay. I then cliked on it to rotate and it only rotate the region, not the dwg. I am at a loss and will just put it on another sheet I geuss. Thanks for your help

Please check your release number, you must have an old build as previously posted. If you have anything other than 7.0 20050227_0414 then rotate will not work.

You can download the latest 7.0 build from the web and install it. Nothing will be changeds, just save you revit.ini file and your keyboard shortcut. Run the executable, then copy those two file back into the program directory of the revit 7.0 directory.

Thanks. Is it a easy process to upgrade to 8.0 and and put the projects that I have done in 7 into 8?

Depends where you are in the project, just starting definately upgrade, almost done, definately don't unless you have a specific bug that the new version fixes. Basically I like to upgrade between issues, ie moving from SD - DD or DD - CD, but almost never in CD's would I recommend upgrading. You are usually fine, but occassionaly the upgrade process may produce an error. 8.0 has been around long enough that you probably won't have any issues. Some releases have changed behavior to specific items that cause lots of problems, ie rotated views between 6 and 7 and 3d levels and grids. I haven't had any issues between 7 and 8 so far.
