2005LT and DWG Viewer
W2KSP4 and WXPPSP2

I have a problem with a custom font only on some pc's. The font is a TrueType font. I have installed it into Windows. Let me say now that I am the IT Manager not a CAD Tech.

I open a dwg that contains the font. It doesn't show the custom character, or any other character. If I zoom, extents there is a long line where the character should be. Selecting this line causes AutoCAD to freeze up.

I mtext and enter a character. I apply the font and can see the custom character. When I click OK then it goes back to the line thing and CAD freezes.

It does the same in DWG Viewer when viewing the dwg.

The strange thing is that it does it on some newly installed pcs (os and cad) but not on others. The same font file was used to install it on both types of pc's.

Any ideas?

Is the text item lying in the xy plane of the current UCS?
Viewing at an oblique angle will give a clue.

A quick check would be to type -

vpoint
1,1,1

see if that tells you anything new.

Seems to be a problem with a Windows update.

I reformatted the pc.
Installed WXPPSP2 slipstreamed, 2005LT, DWG Viewer and the font.
Works fine.

I am currently installing the Windows updates to find what messed it up.

I found it.

Turn Clear Type off and it works!

I use Autopatcher to update the pc's. One of the settings turns Clear Type on. This causes the font to mess up.

I hope this will help people in the future.
