View Full Version : Can you Explain this (Exaggerated crop region)?

On all of my section and callout windows i have an additional square appearing thats causing each of the views to exagerate their cropped region. I have seen this happen before with stray elevation indicators but this is different - the only way i have found to get rid of this glitch is to turn off walls - which is not a solution.

Is there an underlying dwg or linked rvt file in the model that this section would cut through?

No i thought perhaps that was the problem, i thought that if i turned walls off the problem would go away, but i have to uncheck the entire model category in the visibility settings to stop the problem.
It just started yesterday and the problem arrose working on other parts of the project - was not working in callouts when i noticed the problem.

here is another image from a callout view. This is zoom all - notice the crop box shown....this is almost like the problem with text showing up outside crop windows when used with existing drawings.

Are you using the latest build? This thread (http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=11317) discusses a similar issue, but I thought they had corrected the problem in subsequent builds.

Do you have a Plan Region floating in space? They are hard to find, because selection by window wont select them. You must find them by moving the cursor over them, which makes them pre-highlight in Red.

no plan regions used on this project

Yeah, i tried various combinations of turning almost everything off in the model settings...annotations dont appear to be the problem either.

I have had similar problems in elevation and sections views where I do a zoom extents and the view becomes very small in the middle of the screen, and then I place the view on a sheet, the box that pre-highlights around the view on the sheet is extremely wide. I have yet to find a reason for this happening. On a recent project I had some interior elevations that started out fine, and as soon as I added a text note and a filled region to the view, the extents of the view suddenly became very wide. Quite frustrating when the wide views overlap other views placed on the sheet, it makes it more diffucult to select and activate other views.

In the past I just fixed it by switching off "Curtain System Grid Layout" in the visibility graphics...but I've noticed that is not in v8, so I don't know if it's "Curtain Systems" that is the issue or if it is now a different issue altogether, since I haven't had this come up since v8 was released.

If the issue is not caused by any of the issues noted in this thread and you can't find any geometry or plan region or similar in the View, the issue may simply be that there WAS something at some point that caused the Crop Region to enlarge to that size. When you place the View on a Sheet View the Viewport sizes it self to the Crop Region of the View. I suggest opening the View, turning on the Crop Region (Show), and making sure it is sized correctly. Once it is resized the Viewport will automatically resized.

I've had problems with viewports being huge (extremely wide) as mentioned above, even though the crop region is quite small.

Just bumping this up in the hopes that perhaps someone knows of a fix...still happening to me.

I believe that autodesk is looking into the problem.

Wow, here it is April of 2007 and it's still a problem. Just had every viewport in my project start acting this way. Wasting Hours trying to figure out whats the cause.

I've had the same issue in every one of our projects. Only turning off the entire model category will get rid of it as neb said before....

If you "Reveal Hidden Objects", it zooms correctly. . . .turn it back off and it zooms to the large extents again . . . .grrrrrr

I have been having the same problem with Interior Elevation views (see attached screen shot). These are newly created Interior Elevations, no text or any other annotations have been added. This issue is a pain to deal with, but more than a fix I would appreciate an explanation for why it is happening. Unless I have missed someone's post about this most of what I have read is conjecture about what is going on.

Check your build. We were experiencing this in 2007 but with the build were running now it was fixed. Build 20070810_1700. I hope that you are not running a newer build than this and the problem returned.
Thanks

I ran into similar problems with an Arch firm that I did Revit consulting for. We found the problem to be with groups. They started the project in 9 or 9.1 and converted it to 2008. Since there were significant improvement in groups in 2008 and the client was using a ton of groups (condo project) we found that we could ungroup and create new groups where needed to fix this issue. I didn't see any mention of groups in this thread so maybe that will help.
