View Full Version : Loss of 'Expand' buttons - Project Browser

I have had this happen twice now in the past 3 days.

If you have a look at my attached screen shot, you will notice that the 'Expand' buttons (+ symbols) have been removed from my Project Browser items. The only way to get them back is to restart Revit.

Anyone else experienced this?

Happens a lot here - its something we just seem to put up with
ALthough the PLUS signs are missing you can still actually click to expand or contract them, so as I said we just live with it.

I'll have to ask what graphics card he is using and the settings next time I'm there (forgot to when I was there obviously :-( ) I assume it must be a graphics issue...

I find they disappear when you've had quite a lot of views open or just after doing a save...

And yes all i've found to amend this issue is a restart. But it really doesn't matter that much.. as long as they work.

Had it happen to me once in the last couple of weeks. Steve, wonder if it was at my office, on the same model laptop as mine?

In a way, I'm glad it's not just me.

I thought I tried clicking where the + would be last time, but got nothing. I'll try it again next time. Maybe I wasn't in the correct location.

The session will start fine, but then I will miss the moment that they disappear, since you can run many commands before needing to use the Project Browser again.

I wouldn't have thought it would be a video card issue, as I am running just fine at the moment with all +'s visible.

But mine is a nVidia GeForce Ti 4200 8x 128MB.

Yes I have had it on occasion as well when working in revit for a long period without restarting. Now I restart in the middle of the day which seems to give revit a boost.

Are people still experiencing this?
I've been on 8.1 for a day now, and have had it happen again.

Chad, it happens almost every day. Thought it was my box and a local system issue. Phew . . . starting to feel somewhat normal!

Everyone gets it 'one time or the other' but having gone through 'advanced stages' of error handling, we don't really care for these smaller issues. The standard answer to these issues, 'Close and re-open Revit'...very handy solution....everything is back to normal !!!

I have never had it happen but other users have, exact same machines except they have on board video and I have a good video card

Yeah, it seems to be an 8.x problem. It never happened before 8.x.

This has never happened on my PC or notebook but I have seen it on other people's PC's. I saw it in 7.0 and in 8.0. I'm curious what each of these PC's might have in common so this might get debugged? OS...hotfixes...graphics settings/resolution, a total number of views in the browser, browser organization settings.

I think Windows is running out of GUI resources.

I think Windows is running out of GUI resources.
Oh good, I love when we have an excuse to bash Windows. Care to elaborate a bit on that, FK?... i.e. is that because Revit is using more than it's allowed, or is it something we as users can address, or do we have to take Bill out back and rough him up a bit?... get him to cough up some more of those resources...

For those who have it happening, could you poste detail about the hardware config ?
Maybe we could find a common issue
Never happen to me, running :
Dell Precision M70
2 GB AM
256 MB Quadro FX Go1400
Windows XP SP2
Virtual Memory min : 4096 Virtual Memory max : 4096
OpenGL : On Overlay planes : On

Every little button is a window as far as Windows is concerned, and it has some internal data structures keeping track of them. When these are exhausted, windows stop showing up.

Revit used to have problems with taking up and never releasing resources, and this looks like not all of the problems have been plugged. Complain to client support...

Has anybody figured out a faster way to fix this than just restarting Revit. It happens to me nearly every day. But I can't seem to be able to figure out a common cause of it from day to day other than it usually happens after a few hours of use. I'm running 2008 and my comp specs are pretty good.

Suprised I never posted this...if you change your theme to windows classic this problem goes away altogether
