I'm using a 30 day trial of inventor 10 and I need to save a part to AutoCAD 2006. The help files tell me all I have to do is save as and select .dwg; however, I do not have .dwg as an option. Can someone save this as a .dwg for me?

Please email me if you are willing and I can send you the part. rpurnell@rtpcompany.com

I've saved it as a .SAT file and was able to import it into AutoCAD but I would like to see if there is a difference between the .SAT and a .DWG.

TIA

Are you trying to save a *.dwg from an *.ipt or *.iam? If so, the dwg option isn't available, only *.sat is. The save as dwg/dxf functions are located from the *.idw.

I hope this information is helpful.

Yes, I was trying to save an ipt to a dwg. I guess you can't. Thanks for your help! The .sat worked well so I don't have a problem, but I was wondering if I could save a part file straight to a .dwg.

The short answer is no, as Jonathon explained it, stp or sat. However, it is possible to open an ipt or iam in Mechanical Desktop 2006 (this comes with Inventor) as linked files. This functionality is limited as follows-
ipt - doesn't like derived parts.
iam - single level assemblies only, ie, no sub-assemblies.
