We have had this happen now on 3 sep computers in our office. 2 versions of revit 8.0, 1 version in 7.0. Working away and revit just vanishes, no trace of it on task manager, no warnings, nothing, just gone. Here is what it says at the end of the journal files. Actually I just check the other journal and it said something diff. Has anyone else experience this, is it a windows issue? Any ideas would be helpful. It was also 3 totaly sep. projects.

Yeah Seen it happen a few times. No more recovery prompts I never get those anymore, just a David Copperfield disappearing act, so far have not been able to duplicate it, sorry can't be much help...

That's happened with AutoCAD...but I haven't seen it in Revit yet. Any way to tell if you had similar or exact same conditions in each circumstance? Probably impossible to say.

Totally diff. conditions, i was aligning a line of a floor sketch in 3d when mine went, The user next to me his went working with a raster image. I'm wondering if overlay planes might be the problem.

I've found its usually a driver or video issue that causes it. When the system has a problem then revit is unable to display an recover message etc. Had it happen a few times but i can usually put it down to video driver issues.

I had that problem in ADT in a particular file. It was very strange to say the least. Everytime I would "touch" this one wall, move it or try to delete it, EVERYTHING would disappear!?!?
I've had it happen in Revit a couple of times within a couple of years, but nothing serious.
Who know!?!!

This journal entry shows where exactly the crash occured. It is in Revit's code and it is not related to windows, or drivers. If you have the journal or maybe the .dmp file produced by the crash, please send it to support.

I wonder if you had an integral wall sweep near this alignment.

Sorry for your trouble, and I promise we'll fix this shortly.

Well in my case I had integral wall reveals and an edited wall profile. When I get to the offfice monday I will send in the whole thing. The guy next to me has a totally diff. model with just generic 12 " walls and raster images, a couple area boundaries. His journal had a diff. message at the end. I will send it too.

Video drivers are an integral part of the equation when you're talking about graphics intensive applications like Revit, AutoCAD, or ADT. Make sure that you have the latest driver installed, and especially not the one from Microsoft that may be installed with Windows.

Hi All.

I also had a similar problem but not yet in R8. What i did was open the journal file and removed the last ±5 lines and then ran the journal file.

I then saved the file and carried on working.

I have no idea what cause the error though.

Hey there,
I have had similar experiences twice now. Both having to do with imported rastor images.
Hmmmmm

I have followed this post with a smug grin knowing I had had no such problems.

Within 24 hours of reading this post..... first crash! Just threw me straight out (unsurprisingly during radiation process)

Damn I think this post is jinxed, don't read it any more, get out whilst you still can!!!!!!!!

Well I'm glad we aren't alone on this. I hope together we can find the common thread. One of ours had an imported image. So that maybe one cause.

If you could reproduce the crash by running the journal to the very end (without deleting the 5 lines), we would appreciate it if you sent it to support. This is one of the easiest case for catching a crash bug. (After this of course you can still cut the last lines and continue to work as you just described.)

I know, it is somewhat of a waste on your part, but it will help us avoiding the same problem in the future.

Thanks,

Tamas

How do i run the journal?? I searched for Journal in the help file and only got the option of how many to keep, not how to run one...

In my experience with computers (particularly Windows), the word "Exception" is never good and neither is the letter 'x' when surrounded by zeroes.

It was recommended to me to go ahead an updat the video drivers, even though it may really be a problem with the revit code, it is most likely a problem in conjunction with the video drivers, so potentially a new driver will hide the issue.

Interesting to note this... but yes, the video driver can take Revit right out altogether. In the bad old days pre Windows 2000 it could cause a BSOD or hang the computer or cause a spontaneous reboot.
