View Full Version : AutoCAD2006 Bugs?
I've been having some random problems with my layers in 2006. Sometimes it's stuff like:
- After I select a layer and change its properties it remains dashed (dashed from when I select it)
- After I select a layer and change its properties it changes color (not just the one line but ALL lines of same layer. It remains the same layer and layer color, but it displays differently on the screen. If the layer is red, it displays white. If the layer is white, it displays blue etc.
Sometimes these quirks are solved by a regenall, other times I have to restart to get my layers to stop acting the fool.
Any suggestions on what this is and whether or not there is a way to fix it?
Been having these problems since day 1 ... just never thought to ask til now.
I figure it might be a bug?

It's a bug - I submitted this to autodesk about 2 weeks after 2K6 came out, so hopefully it will get fixed with the first service pack to come out. (although another submission of the bug report probably wouldn't hurt ;) )
Oh - and afaik there is currently no way to fix it.

Have you checked to see if there are updated drivers for you video card? I have seen this even with AutoCAD 2000i and it was video and memory related. Typically it happened with viewports more often than anything.

Thanks for the tip, but I can assure you it is most definitely not video card related. my PC at work was built specifically for me with 2006 in mind. I mean ... it's possible ..... but highly unlikely. Good idea though. ;)

That's kinda what I figured. There's 2 fellas in my office along with me who are currently experiencing this ..... uh ... phenomena? ;) I've been telling them it's a bug and that Autodesk should be coming out with a service pack soon ... but I wanted to double check ... you know, just to make sure I wasn't blowing smoke up their hoo-has.

One thing you might want to try is the up coming AutoCAD 2006 SP1 beta. I haven't heard any other complaints about this problem, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist though. Even with computers built in mind with AutoCAD 2006, that doesn't mean that the latest drivers are being used. If you don't mind me asking, what type of video card are you using? I am using three different machines with a radically different range of cards and I haven't seen the problem that you are discussing. If you want to sign up for the upcoming beta head over to the MyFeedback portal that Autodesk hosts (http://myfeedback.autodesk.com/). Here is the posting that Shaan Hurley mentions the upcoming Service Pack Beta on his blog(http://autodesk.blogs.com/between_the_lines/2005/07/standalone_batc.html).

I've seen a few posts on it, and there are likely a lot of users who have the prob but aren't on these forums, or haven't posted about it simply because it has no fix.
My machine hasn't changed between 2K5 and 2K6, so I'm pretty sure it's not my card causing the problem.
Just for info, I'm using GeForce4 Ti4200 on winXP.
I have noticed though that sometimes when a regen doesn't fix it, switching tabs to/from model can do the trick.
Not sure if the filesize has any effect on it, I'll have to try and keep check of when I get occurences, although it's not a rare thing.
Been signed up for the Beta's for a while...just waitng for my first one to test ;)

One thing that I have seen fix this problem is changing the Layout Regen Options in the Options dialog box. The color problem seems related to the layouts not regenerating correctly as you are mentioning as AutoCAD does some things in cache to improve zoom and regen performance. By closing and reopening the drawing the cache is cleared and re-established.
New video card drivers are made available all the time. You mention that nothing has changed since 2005 on your machine. Updated drivers for your card were released about a month ago. There are alot of things that have changed in the AutoCAD display with 2006.
Version: 77.72
Release Date: June 22, 2005

Thanks Lee,
I'll update my drivers and see if that changes anything (I did check when i first had the prob, but not lately)
My settings were already set to not use any caching, so not sure if maybe I should be using the function, although it only gets slow once I start adding my sheeting in, too much "noise" in the sheeting profile I guess :)

Beyond those ideas I don't have any others as those typically fixed the problems at my previous employer that had similar problems with AutoCAD 2000i. I haven't see or heard of the problem again until now. So good luck and how it is fixed in the SP.
