Visibility of cut portion of roof

This is driving me nuts. I have cut a sloped roof with a void and wish to have the cut portion disappear. The portion I cut is displaying with a dotted outline and surface patterns in all views. The void I used to cut the roof with was a roof. It seems like this used to work and this is maybe new with V8. Thanks for any help.

It works fine and fast.....; if i well understand you tried to do it with a void estrusion??

I think you can't apply a void estrusion in a roof that you didn't model; i mean you need a solid estrusion to cut with a void one.

In-place families using voids can cut a "regular" roof when assigned to the roof category AND you use the Cut Geometry tool while editing the in-place family. Cut Geometry won't work if you have finished the family, quit the editing mode that is, so you need to be in Edit Mode for the in-place family to cut the roof.

Thanks for the replies. I think my question is really to do more with visibility of removed items. For example, I have removed several walls, doors, columns etc, and enlarged a space. Now, sections through that space show the items that have been removed as ghosts which cover up anything behind them. That was actually the issue I was having with the roof. Any thoughts?
