View Full Version : Titleblock Sheet Name

I'm trying to learn about labels and how they work while trying to get my first project out. I wish I had more time to read and learn more so I didn't feel like I'm asking lame questions. :?
I want the sheet name in my title block to be up to 3 separate lines similar to the following:
Installation plan,
9th Floor Mechanical Room,
Refriderant Piping
But I would like the Sheet Index to place all the text on 1 line
Installation plan, 9th Floor Mechanical Room, Refriderant Piping
I can't seem to get a "hard return" for the next line in a label. I can add spaces so that it will word wrap but then my sheet index also has all those spaces between titles
Do I need to make separate labels for each line or is there a way to do a hard return in a label?

In the titleblock family set the label for the sheet name to be middle and center aligned then for the sample text write in your title, adjust the grips on the text box to fit in the space available in your title block. save and reload.
Now in your drawing schedule you will just pick on the schedule when its placed on a sheet and some blue triangles will appear, you can then drag those as needed to adjust the length of the drawing name row.

Scott,
Thanks for the help. Believe me, I have been reading all the previous post that I can find, and doing tutorials like crazy trying not to ask lame questions that someone has already asked or that I should be able to find in the tutorials.
:) I was able to adjust the length of the sheet index to show as one line without a problem.
:banghead: Considering I've followed your directions correctly and I think I have I'm unable to get the results I'm looking for. I'm confused on the instructions for the sheet name label in the titleblock family. My intension is to have up to 3 lines for my title, within the 6 1/4 x 1 1/4 title space. Since the sample text is on one line, and each drawing will have differant titles with differant lengths of text, how do I break the text where I want.
I have attached a file showing the problem and one showing what I would like. Notice the 9TH is on the first line? I would like it on the second line with the other text and "refriderant piping or what ever on the third line.

Upload a copy of your sheet and maybe we can see whats going on and better understand your situation.

I have used spaces to get the sample text to show the way I would like to see typical titles shown, but of course spaces wouldn't work with the title sheet.

There's no way I know of to add a hard return within a label.
You could set up a shared parameter file and add a label with it's own parameter for each of the three lines.
You'll have to enter the information manually in each of the label fields, but it'll give you the look you're after on your sheet.

I understand what you're looking for. You can accomplish this by creating 3 shared parameters called "SheetTitle1, SheetTitle2, and SheetTitle3" (Image #1)
Then add 3 labels in the titleblock family assigned to each of the three shared parameters. (Image #2)
Load the titleblock into your project and enter the drawing info into the three separate labels. (Image #3)
Create a Drawing List with the Sheet Number and the three shared parameters. (Image #4)
With a bit of formatting manipulation and stretching, you can have a single-line, albeit fragmented, drawing list. (Image #5)

oops, guess it would be more useful if I actually attached the file

I don't have Revit on this machine but could you use formulae in your schedule to concatenate the string values to get the title as a single line?

James,
Thanks for the detailed information and especially the attachments. I'm a visual kind of guy and I believe a good picture is priceless.
I don't care for how the schedule looks yet (lines separating the sheettitle1, 2 & 3 and no Drawing Title header) but maybe I can figure something out there.
Peter,
That's a great suggestion, but aren't formulas only in 6.0? I've got 6.0 on order, but I'm not sure if I should be upgrading while on this first project.

Shouldn't be a problem with upgrading, few projects fall of foul of the upgrade and they can ususally be fixed by support.
You should be able to just download 6 right now unless you don't have a subscription or there is a protocol issue in your office....

As a note along these lines, for any of the settings in Projects Information... you can use CTRL-Enter to make a hard break. Unfortunately, I haven't found a way to do this with the sheet names...I tried doing it in a schedule, but the schedule doesn't allow any of the "following" characters, including non-printable ones. If someone figures this out, I would be interested in learning how.
