View Full Version : Family in place edit or a reload from original path option

Using AutoCAD one can edit an xref or, I think, a block in place. Given that in 6 we can save a family out of the project file, within certain limits, I would like to be able to right click a family and be given two options:
[list:cda63d83d8]Edit family: which would take me straight to an instance of this family in the family editor, but with an 'exit' button on the toolbar that would return me to the model and update the family

Reload from source: which would reload that family back into the model (more problematic as I don't imagine source path is saved)[/list:u:cda63d83d8]
I say this because I often find a new family doesn't behave exactly as anticipated and need some tweaking.

I suppose there could be variations in particular 'Duplicate and open in family editor' so that one could, for example, open the door's family load the intumescent air transfer grille as a nested family and then be back in the model automatically.

Sound like a winner?

Yes it does, a sort edit xref edit in place as it were, I'd like the same for Linked revit models as well. But with dual monitor support couldn't another instance of revit be opened on the second monitor anyway. We can have 2 instances open I think provided they are running on the same machine.

Great idea Peter,

Also need the ability to edit a loaded 'profile' in place with option to overwrite existing used profile or create a new named profile to use.

The whole concept of creating families somehow need to relate to the model geommetry.
I find it difficult at times to create a certain family totally 'remote' from the actual model I need that family created for. IF somwhow we could create within the model (like in-place creation) BUT have it saved out as a family I can use on other projects.

Would be very helpful indeed.... Big vote YES

The auto re-load would save a ton of time.

This gets "wishlist of the year" for me.
