Revit to Total Station - Suggestions?

Can you export a Revit model into Total Station?

If so, what are the steps required?

Interesting idea... most of us are accustomed to going the other direction :mrgreen:

What's the big idea, Tony? Developing a site model in Revit and wanting to locate those points on the site automatically? Which objects do you need COGO data for?

One of my customers is a Building Contractor and wants to get points (elevations of objects like points on walls, slabs, Beams, etc.) out of the model for verfication in the field during the construction process.

Yes - they're going backwards... but I think you can do that, right? They mentioned that they can do that now using .dwg data, but I'm not sure what usable data you get when you export your 3D model to a .dwg from Revit. I know you can get solids or polymesh, but can that type of data be imported into Total Station.

FYI - I've never used Total Station and only know the concept behind it...

I'm requesting more info on how they're doing this now with .dwg data. When I get that I may be able to elaborate more...

They probably take point entities from AutoCAD and have some sort of LISP routine that generates a CSV file that they dump into the total station.

Total stations are pretty cool... you can build up a point cloud real fast on a site and take the points directly into Revit and build a terrain model. :cool:

I've exported to a total station for footprint layout but I do not take advantage of the 3D model within Revit...but I think you could still do it.

When I'm comfortable with my Revit file for site location I export a DXF file to acad that includes benchmarks and or property lines. I'll open the DXF and start applying points to all the layout locations I desire (including site reference and instrument points).

I then use Survey Link by TDS to create a .CR5 file. This will take all the DXF points and create a data file that can be used to uploaded into the instrument or data collector.

In your situation I think you'd have to export a 3D model to acad and then apply the points desired on the model rather than the 2D drawing I use. It should export the same and give all the elevation information required.

There is a application from Autodesk for use in Revit called Point Layout https://www.autodesk.com/products/point-layout/overview, I think that's your searching. Sorry for my english
