Could someone please tell me how to change the default text font in revit?

Select the text note, then click on propeties. Then you can edit or create a new text style. You can choose from any Truetype font available (no .shx fonts in Revit).

To completely set a font as the standard for an office you should create a template where all text, dimension styles etc. are defined and all annotation objects that are "outside" the template should be set and re-imported. If you don't then you run the risk of a rogue annotation object infiltrating your standards.
Arial is what you get "out of the box", take the "low" road and you're already done :D. Take the "high" road and it will take some planning and effort to get everything changed to something else but once done...you're good to go till the next partner wants a different font. :shock:
Maintain your templates and annotation families (and be consistent particularly when creating new ones) faithfully and you're good to go.
