I have recently installed AutoCAD 2006 on my computer, but when I type a command in the command line the unknown message is displayed.
The tool bars work fine. Any suggestions.

Hi Mike
What does command line said?
Do you see the command line?
Unknown message is shown with a dialog box?
Which command you tpyed in?
Every command?
Do you know ctrl+9 is a toogle key for command line on/off?
New dyn mode can change the using of command line. You can see it's button near osnap, ortho, otrack buttons.
You should tell your problem more details.

I mean that no commands are recognised at all. If I type E for ERASE is returns unknown command.

Sounds like AutoCAD is unable to find the Acad.PGP file. Make sure the path to this file is under the Support Paths item of the Files tab under Options. By default it is located under C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2006\R16.2\enu\support.

Hi Mike
Please note I have *moved* this thread from the AutoCAD Customization (http://forums.augi.com/forumdisplay.php?f=118) Forum to this one as I feel this particular Forum is a more appropriate place for such a topic.
Thanks, Mike

To expand on Lee's statement -
"E" is not a command, it is an alias.
Comands, such as "Erase" are hard coded.
If "E" is not recognised but "Erase" is recognised, then acad cannot find the acad.pgp file or "E" (and any other aliases you have tried) are not defined in the pgp file (most unlikely).
Is "Erase" recognised?
Is "Line" recognised?

Yes ERASE is recognised but E is not. How do I rectify this problem?
Thanks Mike

As Lee first said, autocad is not finding the acad.pgp file (aclt.pgp if you are using acad LT). He also explained what to do in his earlier message.
Take care. ;-)

Hi
The following threads contain information that should prove useful...
Solid shortcut command (http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=6530)
Command Alias Editor Faults (http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=13797)
Have a good one, Mike

Try typing in (findfile "acad.pgp") if you are using AutoCAD. If nil comes back to the command line then the file is missing from the AutoCAD support path. If it doesn't come back as nil, then open the file at the specified path and make sure it has "E" for Erase in the file then. Is this the only one that is missing? Does "E" do something else other than Erase?

If only that was true... I myself am only a muppet in the grand scheme of things... you on the other hand have done some very  stuff with CAD.
