Does anyone know how or if there is a way of disabling the F1 AutoCAD help key. A friend has asked me to find out as she is always hitting it when going for the Esc key - I thought it was going to be easy - just rummage around in the mnu or pgp files, but no.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Yes, add:

["F1"]^c^c

to your acad.mns file under ***ACCELERATORS. Then it will act as a second escape since that's what you were trying to do anyway. To keep help accessible, you could also add:

[Alt+"F1"]HELP

I have also run into the F1 help issue. I wasn't really hitting F1 and I was still getting the help menu. Since upgrading to 2006, I haven't had any problems.

The F1 key has been removed from all my keyboards permanently (wk. & hm.)
They all seemed to have disappeared around '98; never to be seen again.

Similar to that, I wrote a small lisp that echoed a note to the command line so that you(other users) don't wonder what happened. Since menu macros can include lisp, you could just add it to the macro.

["F1"]^c^c(princ "F1 has been disabled.")

Then there's always the trick of taping a thumbtack upside-down on top of the key. You won't make that mistake for long.

By three PM I was dizzy from blood loss, lines turned into arcs, and the roof plan collapsed before my very eyes. It was easier to just remove the button with a paperclip.
