I am trying to update a block and am unable to make the layer change. I am creating a new block, picking the same insertion point as the original block, and saving it with the same name as the original block. All the blocks are supposedly updated, but the only thing that changes is the color, not the layer.
First I tried copying the old block, exploding it, changing the layer, and the saving it. That didn't work. I then traced a block with a different layer and saved it with the same name as the old block and that didn't work either. Just the color changed in both instances.
Any ideas??

Hi
Are you referring to the Layer the Blocks are inserted on OR the Layers within the Blocks themselves?
Is it possible to post an example drawing file so we can take a look at the issue / problem first hand.

There is a blue box in the wall by a room with a W D in it (wacher and dryer). The name of the block is:
e-flush_mounted-panel
I wanted to simply change that specific item to a layer called:
Load Centers

Hi
Please refer to attached drawing file - Does it contain the results you are after?

Yes it does. That is great. Did you have to manualy change each block? Or were you able to update them all at once?
Thanks

Hi
I used the RefEdit command to update all instances of Block "e-flush_mounted-panel" in one single process.
ID: TS17882 - Reference editing blocks and xrefs (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/item?id=2895752&linkID=2475323&siteID=123112)
Then used the QSelect command in conjunction with the Properties Window to place all instances of Block ""e-flush_mounted-panel" on Layer "Load Centers".

I am using LT2006 and that command is not available. Any other suggestions?

Hi
Ok! you can achieve the same results via "long hand method", basically Redefining the Block (using the same Block Name) -
ID: TS41051 - Redefine multiple blocks in a drawing (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/item?id=2873460&linkID=2475323&siteID=123112)
ID: TS49679 - Redefining multiple blocks in a drawing file (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/item?id=2879287&linkID=2475323&siteID=123112)
AutoCAD Online Help File [F1] -> Contents tab -> User's Guide -> Create and Modify Objects -> Draw Geometric Objects -> Create and Insert Symbols (Blocks) -> Modify Blocks -> Modify a Block Definition
Have a good one, Mike
