View Full Version : Express Tools - no function definition: VLAX-PRODUCT-KEY

Just in the past few days, when I try to use some of my express tools, I get the message: "no function definition: VLAX-PRODUCT-KEY". Does anyone know how I can get these express tools to work again? I haven't checked every one, but it happens with layfrz, layoff, layiso and textmask. (AutoCAD 2002, Windows XP Pro). Thanks

I seem to remember having that exact same error happen to a few users on our network several months ago. If I recall correctly it is a .dll conflict that comes from upgrading Microsoft Office or Outlook on your machine. A straight repair of AutoCAD fixes this issue.

By "straight repair" do you mean a re-install, or is that an option on the installation CD?

Go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs. There should be a "change" option. Click on that and it gives you options for Repair, Reinstall, etc.

The options that I get are "Add or remove features", "Reinstall Autodesk Map 5" or "Remove Autodesk Map 5"

If I highlight the Express Tools - Autodesk Map 5, the only option is to remove.

Have a browse of the following results obtained via an Autodesk Discussion Groups "All AutoCAD Express Tools Groups" search -

From the add/remove programs selecting your Autodesk product should give you the option to "change" or "remove". Choose "change". This should then give you the options to, "add/remove features", "reinstall..." or "remove....". Choose "reinstall...". The next window that pops up will give you 3 more options, "reinstall....", "repair AEC loading....." or
"repair errors in my Autodesk.....". Choose "repair errors in my Autodesk...". It's been a while since I've done this but I'm almost positive this fixed our errors with Express Tools VLAX-PRODUCT-KEY. I'm not positive now that I think about it if it was a registry error or a .dll problem that caused this to happen. But it did happen when we upgraded to Office/Outlook 2002 SP3.
