I am trying to create some rotated windwos as an in place family. The sketches work fine and it all looks good in 3D, but when I try to "finish" the family, It get the circular chain of references error. I have nothing locked or constrained. However, I have been picking the wall in which it is being placed as the work plane for each extrusion. I create an opening, then create a sash, the the glass. They are all touching, and sharing lines. I have tried doing it by offsetting some distance, but to no avail. I have also tried locking the opening to the work plane - wall, but nothing going. Then I tried locking sash extrusion to opening and glass to extrusion, but same error. Nothing seems to work and it is a problem I encounter in all files, not just this one.

The rotated window in the image is before "finish" family.

To make things worse, it flexes fine.

Thanks,

This family should be what you need. At the moment its just a cut opening, but it works so all you need to do is put the trim and other pieces in. If you have problems with that just let me know and Ill finish it for ya'.

This is most likely the source of your error. If you encounter this error in the future when creating an in-place family try the following. Create a reference plane at the face of the wall. Use the reference plane as your working plane.

Thanks for the tip. I will give that a try. I had some ref. planes, but only for the sides of the window for flexing.
