What is the character limit for layer names. Previously it was 31, but what about 2005?

I just created a layer named a...z1...9a...n for a total of 50 characters in A2k2, so I'll second 255 for the limit.

I just created a layer with a bunch of 300+ characters and then pressed enter and Autocad was nice enough to tell me the limit.

AutoCAD 2002 limit is 255 characters.
