What is the best practice for modelling a body of water? Almost all of my projects are on or near the water and I have done this a number of different ways. I am curious how ya'll 're doin' it.

Please explain your method if it is not listed above...

I'll drink to that!!!

Topo works for myself. What problems are you experiencing?

Renderings, site plans, etc??

I'd use topo for most (simple) stuff, but if I really got into hot water (groan ), I'd probably get the plug-in - "flood" for photoshop.

I am not really having problems, I just don't like the way that splitting the topo takes a lot of the intelligence out of the model. overlapping split regions can be troublesome. Just curious how others were handling this.

What about creating a pad with water as the material? Any outline is possible and since water will always be level, the 'upstream' sides can be contoured/edited to suit the shore line. For a stream you could use a ramp?
