Multiple CPUs do not speed up Revit itself much (although the second CPU will take up all other processes, leaving a little more elbow room for Revit).

Hyperthreading - doing two tasks at once on one CPU - will give you pretty much the same benefit as a second CPU without the expense of one. So, I recommend that.

We are trying the new Pentium D dual core processor to see if the workstations increase in speed. It is much cheaper than a true dual machine.

Anybody have experience with the Pentium D?

I know it can be hard to break a life long Intel habit, but you might also look at AMD's X2 processor. It runs circles around the Intel Pentium D.

You can never have enough RAM though. We just recently had issues with saving to central on a large file, as well as just general slow problems with the file. On one pc however those problems didnt seem to exist. Found out it was running 4GB Ram. Upgraded all, and things seem to be alot better.
