I must have either turned something off or they changed it. When I would select a group of items with no command active (when all the grips appear) decided it didn't one of the items, I would select that item again (still when everything is selected), it would deselect it. Now, it's no longer letting me deselect something without escaping out of it and reselecting everything again. Did they change that in 2006 or did I turn something off?
I've always thought that you had to select the item again while holding down the SHIFT key, this will de-select that item from your set. This definitely works in 2006.

Hi
If I am understanding correctly - I have always had to use the Shift key while selecting Objects to remove from current selection set...

Yes, holding shift down and selecting a selected item will deselect it. Maybe I'm thinking of IntelliCAD which is practically based of R14 imo. That's what would happen if you selected an item that was already selected... it would deselect it. Thanks guys!

The deselection doesn't work. Previous to ACAD 2006 if you selected something and right click and pick deselect it would deselect everything. Never had to hold SHFT. In ACAD 2006 you can't do it that way. Is there a way to change this back, so you don't have to hold SHFT ?

Works for me as you describe but the context-menu label says "Deselect all" and that's what you get.You could try setting PICKADD to zero but then you have to use shift to add items to the set.
