stair creation question

I am trying to create a U-shaped stair by drawing the boundaries and risers. When I clicked "finish sketch" Revit put the bottom of the stair where I want the top.

Using this method, how do you tell Revit where the bottom is?

After you've "finished" the stair, select it, and a little blue arrow should appear at the top riser. Click on the arrow and the stair should reverse the bottom and top of the stair.

edit: make sure you select the stair and not the railing...
