Layer color & Xref file

Hello,

I have a quick question I have a drawing with all the layers set to color 8 and I changed only one layer to 7 visretain is set to (1) when I xref this drawing into another drawing the layer I changed to color 7 does not appear white. I open the layers property box and the layer is set to color 8.

I just don't understand what is going on the visretain are set to 1.

Was the dwg previously referenced into the drawing? If so, then change visretain to 0, reload that xref, then return visretain back to 1.
