I would like to use a structural family in my design, however I need it to be tapered at 1.19 degrees. I tried to edit the family but the extrusion of the joist is from end to end and not front to back. I then tried to void out the area but that does not work either. Any suggestions.

I see that I may need an image to describe this better.

Another question I have in relation to this problem is why can I not extend the joist to the rim joist? It either stops short ( as in the image) or shoots way outside the rim.
Thanks

Are you using the structural joist families? If that is the case, that is probably where your problems are coming from. To my knowledge, you cannot taper them. In order to do that you would have to build an in-place joist family. In terms of the joist not meeting the rim joist, I have noticed that structural members do not connect although I don't remember the technical reason why--somebody explained it on Augi at one point. I typically build exposed structure using families, you have more control over it that way...anyone else is free to disagree.
