rafter tail best practice?

any recommended pratice for creating cpmplex rafter tails that will attach to the underside of the roof and thus moove when the roof moves? I tried wall based generic models but
not working in some conditions & no good for 45 degree rafters at hip corners, any suggestions?

What I have done is to make a roof the thickness of the rafters and then use voids to cut out the spaces between exposed rafters. If you have a fancy end profile you can use a void sweep all around the edge. With this method the rafters are an integral part of the roof and easy to control. Steve Stafford a while back showed a sample of how to do this, I couldn't find his post though.
