Well first off I want to thank anyone and everyone for helping us with our delema.

I have a total of three different problems we are experiencing.

1. Over the past couple months since the upgrade from 14 to 2006, we have had a couple files go corrupt. They become unrepairable for some strange reason.

this is how my attempt goes.
Autocad runs just fine, for the durration of the file use.
Go back to open and plot a few sheets and autocad informs me that i need to recover the file.
Go to recovery and start the prosses, reaches the end and autocad crashes.
the recovery files that autocad creates are 1kb in size and will not open

now, you say to use the autosave file to open and recover.

here is problem no. 2
2. Autocad creates the autosaves just fine, but when autocad crashes, or you shut it down, it deletes all of the autosave files from the previous use.

how are we supposed to retrieve corrupt files using the autosave features when autocad deletes them on autocad exit, or on autocad crash?

and now for problem 3
3. when setting up our machines to plot a page, (we have four stations) three of the four plot just fine, but on station 4 the plots come out larger than what was selected, we have the current drivers for our ploter (HP 750c+) and it appears to be set to plot with a viewable size of 24x36 (margins set to 0) but it plots a sheet in the size of 24.5" or 24.75" x 36"

my boss is about at his wits end with this release of autcad and is threatening to return to board drafting (still have two on board that use pencil and vellum) and well to put it frankly, I am very rusty when it comes to board drafting. lol

thank you again for any help you can provide

Noah

Have you tried inserting the corrupted file into a new drawing?

AutoCAD should only delete the autosave files if it is closed with no errors. Only when it crashes should the files remain. Have you checked the permissions for the folder that AutoCAD is saving the autosave file? Maybe they are set to read only.

I have tried to insert the file, and I get *invalid* and when I try to Xreft the file I get an Autocad crash

Has he provided any training for the new release? If he hasn't, he shouldn't be surprized if there is a loss of productivity.

its not that we cant use it, its that we are having so many problems with random files being corrupted, and the bugs that are around.

our productivity is still very high, but there are files that end up getting corrupt, which sets us back several hours to regain where we were.

If these currupted drawings are 2D, post one here and I will see if Intellicad will open it.

1. Set up your Acad.LSP file to suidt every drawing as it opens (if there are no errors it only increases the opening time by a second or so). If oyu continue to have problems use full time CRC validation.

2. Change the path for AutoCAD's autosave files and set AutoSave to five minutes, for some reason this prvents this from happening also check create back up with each save. Also make sure you save frequently using qsave.

3. Make sure that the fourth person isn't using an "oversize" sheet, it will say something like "Oversize: Arch E1" and there will be another option "Arch E1"
