Easier tracing over DWG's

If I have to trace Revit elements over imported vector data, I've found it much easier to view my progress by setting the view to Shading or Shading with Edges. This makes the Revit walls display with a solid fill.

I'm forever drawing walls over walls & getting the error message, because the imported dwg tends to hide the wall lines in a hidden line view.

Usta do this all the time. Set everything in the DWG to be black, set the walls to fill grey, and trace away. Two other tips that belong in this thread:

1. if there is any z-info or thicknesses to the DWG lines, Revit will have a harder time snapping to them when in plan. A little clean-up prior to import can help a great deal, esp. with bad DWG files; I used to flatten & overkill everything and it really helped sometimes. This isn't really Revit's fault, it's more one of those garbage-in-garbage-out things, but still for those with Revit series or with both tools it's a good thing to know.

2. Now, with 6.0, you can hit tab and have Revit select an entire chain of imported AutoCAD lines. So if you had room-defining polylines in AutoCAD, you could now very quickly redefine those in Revit. Way cool. :)
