Gents,

I have a large room that has dozens of pieces of lab equipment. I figured each piece of equipment can be modeled simply as a extruded box (create in place instance).

Tagging these boxes, however , seems to be the problem, I'm not sure which Tag type to use. Any ideas?

I would use the specialty equipment category, of course that all depends on what else you have going on in that category. As for the families, I did a pharmaceutical lab where I just did 2D symbols just for plan and tagging and schedule purposes.

I wouldn't use an in-place family for this. Rather make a simple "Lab Equipment" family using the specialty equipment template. Just give your simple box width/height/depth instance parameters to make it flexible. Then you can create a corresponding specialty equipment tag for the lab equip.
