Is there a way to group worksets together?

What I mean is, is there a way to associates worksets that are relevant to each other so you only need to check out one thing. Casework for example, if I am going to work at home for the night on casework plans and elevations I need to make sure that I check out all the casework elevations, plans, the user created workset the casework is on and all the families. These is alot of worksets to check out. I almost always, no matter how hard I try, end up checking out all but one and as it turns out I really need to work on that one but I did not know it at the time I left.

What I would like to do is tie all these related worksets together so if I am to work on casework at home I would only need to check out that group and know that I have everything I need. I realize that it would also be difficult to make sure that all of them are grouped appropriately but at least I would only need to do it occasionally rather than everyday before I leave.

...Is there a way to group worksets together?...No there isn't. If you are trying to check out all the views related to work as well as the objects themselves you can check out the sheet and all the views on it at once. This might make it a little easier to decide what views you need. Pick a sheet in the browser and right click, choose Make Editable with all Views (or something like that, not running Revit at the moment)

You've identified a primary reason it is very difficult to work remotely using worksets. It is hard to anticipate where you will need to go in your model and documents as you discover things that need changing. If you discuss this with your co-workers, assuming there are some, you might be able to check out things at risk when you realize you didn't at the office. They just need to know you're going to be working at home and coordinate more closely the things they can work on.

Yes, I had forgotten about the ability to make all view on a sheet editable, but it only simplifies my problem a little since I still need to check out all families and user created worksets separately.

As for the checking things out at risk, how do you do this? When I work at home unless I have the workset checked out it will not let me work on anything else at all.

If you attempt to borrow something at home, Revit should let you but warn you that you are editing at risk. If you aren't going to actually change the families you don't need to borrow them first (make a table larger by changing type parameters or adding types). If you are just placing content or moving content around you aren't editing the family itself, just editing the workset it is part of.

Similar for annotation...changing the words in a text object doesn't affect the text style but it does affect the view workset. Also you can add new work as much as you like because it will be placed on the current workset even if you don't "own" it. If you are not coordinating the offsite work you do well you might end up with walls over walls or strange intersections.

Yes I understand hen I might need to edit a family type versus an instance however when really working on casework I regularly need to edit the family.

I guess I might have something setup different or what because when I try to edit something while away from the central file that I do not have the workset checked out it does not give me a message stating that it is at risk. It comes up with an error that says something to the effect of "you do not have permission to edit" and only allows me to cancel the command.

You should be able to borrow at risk. Maybe the editing you are attempting is removing the option to make it editable?
