Hi all,

I have created different floor subcategories (eg. Sidewalk) and I want to be able to turn them on/off in the "visability" section of each view. But I cannot see how to tell Revit which floor is in which subcategory :( (I can create the subcategories, but not assign them).

I can use this same method for "Massing", and it works.

Can someone tell me how to do it for floors aswell?

Thanks,
Xe

As far as I know, the only way to use subcategories for floors is to create in-place family floors. You can't assign subcategories to standard floors--but gee...I REALLY wish that were possible.

OK - Here's my work-around tip of the day.

IF you don't want to work with Worksets in your project and you want to control an object visibility, you can use the Design Options for your walks. Keep what you want to show everywhere in your 'main model', and put the ones you want to toggle into a Design Option. These are controllable on a View-by-View basis.

If it's a really simple toggle (between viewing it or not), remember to create a 'Blank' Design Option, so that you can click it on and off. This will be under View Visibility (keyboard shortcut: V V )

It's cheap, but it works.

Hmm... OK I thought that was the answer I was going to get. Is this feature in the wishlist section already?

So how do worksets affect my project file? Do I get degraded performance, larger file size etc? Are there any limitations I should be weary of? Workset virgin here :p

Thanks for the replies ;)

another work around can be construction phase. create a phase for the sidewalks and you can toggle them on and off per view basis

Thanks Kyle, nice tip ;) Am I correct in thinking that if I wanted to remove an object from a "Design Option" I have to do a "Cut" --> Edit --> Paste Aligned --> "Same Place"?

Correct-a-mundo.

Design Options allow you to meld the option back into the Main Modle File - (Accept Primary), but unless there is only one Option, this can get messy - especially if you want to keep the information around a while. Once you Accept Primary, the other options (if any) go bye-bye... permanently.

Remember, you can create many different Option SETS, and in these have different options to show. Each one of these will have a Primary which can be accepted back into the Main Model later.

If you still have information in an option you want to keep separate, but you want to bring something back into the Main Model, your sugesstion of "Cut --> Edit --> Paste Aligned --> "Same Place" is the way to go!

:) Happy Pasting :)

All these workarounds. It's time we were able to subcategorise system families.
