I am doing an add in the upcoming local magazine and wanted to tickle your brains for some ideas. I am open to almost anything, whether it be silly or serious. :?: :!:
I specialize in residential design.
I never advertise its all repeat work or recommendations. That said in marketing speak I do have a USP not uniterupted power, but unique selling point! Mine's low energy housing, search your mind for what you do best and more importantly what your clients think you do best. Try to make any ad about you, your client, and the building and you are of course brilliant at Time, Cost and Quality/Performance so say so
Oh and make sure your averising is spelt correctly - don't ask me to proof read it

For my money, I would concentrate on what sets you apart from the others and focus on that. Pick up the clients that are looking for the service only you can provide and then dazzle them with all of the other stuff you do as well. In my area, we are the only company that processes dock and piling permits. We do almost all of the permits for this type of work. We also do custom waterfront residential. I would accentuate those terms in any advertising I did. I want people to know that if they want x,y,or z, they have come to the right place...the only place.
Also keep in mind that for services oriented companies, often advertising is not just about bringing in business but creating name awareness. You may not get a new customer because of your newspaper ad, but if someone says, "Hey, you should have John's House Design design your house," they are more likely to have a favorable response if John's House Design is familiar to them. This is the whole idea behind signs that contractors, architects, etc. put up outside buildings while they are being built. "Oh yeah, they built THAT building!"

Rhys & Greg,
I should re-phrase myself and give out more information.
I am not a big advocate of advertising, since I know the Ad itself will not necessarily generate more clients. We are highly specialized in residential design and 90% percent of our work is based on repeat clients or referrals.
The Ad is specifically for brand marketing, and basically there as a reminder. Heck, I haven't even had any business cards for years! Occasionally I will put signs at the construction sites of high profile projects or key locations (high visibility areas).
I am pretty good as to what to do, and not to do. I've got all the tips from the www.architectsmarketingtips.com and I am pretty strong in the graphics department.
Aside from my work and projects, I am looking for ideas/concepts that will stick in peoples minds possibly irrelevant of the work aspect.
Basically getting my company associated with something non-work related.
You know! Like beer commercials, everyone is having fun!!!!

I will apologize in advance to those schooled in the classics for taking the following liberty.
"To design, perchance to build, Therrein lies the rub."

For in that design of Les's ( ), what dreams may come, when we have paid the builder's final account ?
Must give us pause....

Make sure you include your avatar, that should drum up plenty of business if not just catch people's attention.

I would love to! However I fell Tim Burton may have a problem with it and that whole copyright thing and all.
Has anyone seen "Mars Attacks!"?
I love this movie. Finally a movie where all the main characters die!
My family all make fun of me 'cause I love it. HUGELY creative!

I tried this slogan out for a while. Got some very peculiar looks.
"We transform the abstract into concrete"

I ended up in a hurry for the deadline so whipped up something basic.
This year however, I am in the process of planning something bigger. Especially since our government has changed legislation which will be in my favour!
