Hiya guys

I need some help with modelling some duct work.

I have 2 bits of vertical duct, 1 600mm dia & the other 1200mm. They are also offset from each other horizontally.

I need to join them together with a single piece of duct and without the use of bends.

So basically it is a bit of duct the moves horizontally, vertically and tapers all at the same time.

As yet i have been unable to model this in 3D. Is there anyone that has any idea how to go about this.

Im using AutoCAD 2004 by the way

Thanks in advance

Hi Chris.

One way is to create the circles that represent the ends of the transition and break each into 2 or 4 arcs then use Rulesurf to create the mesh that joins them. M2S.lsp will create solids from the meshes so that the solids can be unioned into a single object.

BTW, it's not essential to break the circles into arcs but it does give you better control.

Thanks John, thats brilliant

I did need to break the circles as the rulesurf command only works with open meshes, but the m3s.lsp didnt seem to work as intended.

However, i am more that happy with leaving it as a 3D mesh for now.

Hi Chris. Glad to help.

To use M2S.lsp your UCS needs to set so that, in plan, the narrow end of the transition appears closer to you than the wider end.
