I am sure most of you know about this tip , but thought it would be good to share.

When you load any of the basic window families in the project, you will notice that the window is transparent in the 3d view , but seems opaque in the elevation view.( refer attached image)

Workaround:
Simply select the window , Click on the 'edit family' button at the options bar

In the window family select the wall opening, ( This might be a little tricky, Go to the 3d view and select everything , using the filter for selection uncheck all the other options except the opening)

You will see "transparent in" option in the options bar,
Check both elevation and 3d.
Save the family and load it to see the transparent window in the elevation ;-)

I tried your suggestion on one of my windows (the are all oipaque on elevations). I opened it for edit, selected the "Opening Cut". checked the "transparent in" for "Elevation", saved and reloaded the family, but it still is opaque. What did I do wrong or miss? I'd love to see it working, it's a great hint.

Actually Cristina, any object (solid) in a family will hide objects behind it, even if its material transparency is set to 100%. As a workaround you could hide the glass subcategory under windows in the visibility dialog...

Yes. i have seen instances where this might not work. Wes suggestion might be a good workaround. If if you wish to share the Windows Family, i can take a quick look.

Wes, thank you, your suggestion works! Thanks also to Nikhil for offering to look into this family. For now I will just apply the K.I.S.S. rule.
