Last month someone started a thread pointing at the an American Co showing a 3 D model copier.
I promised a local manufacturer trying to find the site back again.
Can't find it.

These are a couple I know of, not sure where I got them from though. Look up Rapid Prototyping . . .

I don't know where you are located, but there are "service bureaus" that produce these models too. We are going through a testing period with 3D Rapid Prototyping (www.3drpllc.com (http://www.3drpllc.com/))

So how are you getting the Revit model into .STL?

Can anyone tell me what sort of cost these machines range in?

ZCorp's cheapest 3D Printer lists at around $25000. They may have used and leases so one could be in reach of even small shops.

Main thing might be how to go from .SAT to .STL -- how???

ZCorps is the Co-site I was searching for.

The local manufacturer I mentioned complained about major costs involved in the modeling itself (handcraft) of prototypes for new products.
Feeling the need to bring in new technology or disappear from the market on the long run... I guess.

I'll post him. Thanks to you all.

We gave up trying to make .STL files and let our service bureau do it. We haven't printed a lot of models but LGM did a great job of working with our files for all the ones we have made. Now I think they even take Revit files directly.

Sorry for the delay, must have missed your post...

We sent them a SAT file along with a 3D DWG in both solids and polymesh. The opened them in 3D Studio and saved out to STL. Now, the did call back and tell me that they played with the other types and found that the polymesh was the best for that specific model.

I will post more as I find out more, but we are just getting into this.

We sell the printers and have had good luck printing Revit models. Let me know if you'd like a quote. Attached are some samples.

Thanks,
Chris
