having some troubles w/ toposurfaces. you can't draw an outline for a toposurface, because it triangulates across to points no matter the shape. This creates a real problem when trying to show roads or items w/ corners on them. This seams to me like it's a bug in the software. a subregion shouldn't do that corner-cutting triangulation!

Create a new detail line subcategory and use those detail lines to set-out the subregion boundaries. Use " pick " to snap subregion boundaries to those detail lines. Turn off the detail line subcategory on completion.

The lines thing has no affect on this problem. Here's a screenshot. the Green lines are the detail lines used to create the subregion. the subregion is selected so you can see the big corner it cuts across the model.
I'm solving the problem by making only convex shapes as regions in plans.. means a hassle for certain designs though.
I think this is a bug the factory should address.

Have you tried adding more spot levels to force the triangulation to follow tighter contours ?

Not sure I'm following you but I usually make the site topo larger than I need and use split surface to cut off what I don't need to make it a nice clean shape on the sides.

Here's another example of how subregions in a toposurface can screw up the model in ways they shouldn't.
Pic 1 - before subregion
Pic 2 - after - oops?!
