OK, this one has my head hurting, so I feel it time to spread the pain or have some one help me ease it.
Below I have 2 files attached. . .the 8.1 file is a current straight from our template file, and it works correctly. The second (pre 8.0 most likely 7), the spot elevation tag does not work the same.
Oh! good try. . .you thought it might be a problem with the family? Nope, the spot elevation family is pasted from the pre 8.0 file. . .so its not that. . .whats that. . .try importing the annotation files from the 8.0 file. . .yeah. . .2 strikes. . . .
lol. . .all in good fun. . .I'm just goin nutz here. The project is pretty far along and we cant just cut and paste the whole thing into a new template or anything like that.
I'm hoping its a simple fix, and I'm assuming that it must be in a project setting or something, but I can't find it. Theres a good chance I might cry soon anyway, and the tears will blur my vision to the screen if I dont stop now.
Help me obi one, your my only hope.
What, at 1 am? ;-)
I'll try to remind myself to look at this tomorrow.

ouch guys. . .is this one really that tough, or did my humor not go over too well?
This really is an issue for us, not sure if one of the factory people might be able to take a quick look. . .
I have been toying with it the last day or so and still have no luck.
Thanks

I'd love to help, but got no experience with the spot levels or version 8.1.
So come on chaps, medic required here!
OK, I'm looking at the files. Oh wait, you did not tell me what exactly is wrong. Not a good idea. ;-)
Is it that the markers seem to be stuck to floor edges?

exactly. . . .well. . .yes and no, a marker that is created when it is created on an edge will always be forced to stay on the edge. . .but on the one version it will allow me to pick in space and select the nearest face and give me a height, but in the previous file it will only allow me to select the edges. . .
What happens if you switch the view from wireframe to hidden line?

DRAT. . .that wasnt it. . .well it was in that file, but when i tried again in the full size file it still didn't work. . .
let me try shrinking down the file again, and go from there.

ok, so here it is. . . .
In an effort to send you all another file with the error in it, and making sure that the "wire frame" was switched to "Hidden", i was erasing everything except for the floors. . .then I tried to tag and it worked again, then I tried eliminating everything except for walls, floors, ceilings and roofs. . . .still wasn't working, deleted roofs, and it works.
SO, from there I turned the visibility of roofs off in all pertaining views. . .both plan and RCP, and the tag works now.
Testing the error I recreated a file with a roof and a floor from scratch and can not get the issue to duplicate. So I don't officially know the exact nats arse glitch here, but I do know it has to do with the roofs, and simply turning them off. . .floor plans included, will resolve this issue.
my head hurts
Well done. Debugging is fun, ain't it? ;-)
It looks like the roof got included into the view and obscured the floor. Incidentally, I've got a way to fix that, but I don't know when we'll be able to get to it (as usual ;-) ).
To save your blushing, we ought to make a warning if the tool is started in a wireframe view. I'll make a note about that.
Thanks!
If anyone hits this problem again, the summary of the solution is:
1) Make sure hidden line or shaded mode is on.
if that does not help,
2) Isolate the element you are trying to tag.
