Just curious on the size of projects going on. My file is hovering around 196mb and Revit is is just as smooth as can be.

70 MB and it is very slow responding. I just order another second gig of memory. I hope it helps.

Tom,

you might want to log the performance issues with Support - we'll look at your model and perhaps will suggest some things that will improve performance. this will also give us ideas for what to improve for the future releases.

thanks very much

by the way, with release 8.1 file sizes are less "stable" than in prior releases. this is because we've made some trade-offs between performance and file size. if you want to make your file as small as possible, check "Compact File" in Save Options dialog once in a while.

Ilya, are you saying that the file size in 8.1 will be smaller ( than 8.0 ) but that the performance may be slower ? - without compaction ?

( not liking the words " less stable " :-? )

I think he means file sizes are going to vary a lot more. Read: get bigger, unless you use the save/compact option. Can't comment on a compacted 8.1 versus an 8.0 file with worksets enabled... seems about the same tho.

No, it is the opposite. Saving performance is faster in 8.1, but file size is larger -- it starts the same and slowly increases with each save until you compact."Less Stable" simply referred to the fact that the size isn't always the same. Performance of the file once opened is unaffected.

OK, thanks - good to know.

Our file was at 100mb, then I resaved my local as a new central file (with a different name) and it went down to 60mb. Good old trick to get your file size down :)

We are sitting at 199Mb. Very hungry on resources. Revit.exe using up to 1.5GB Mem/usage.
RAM defrag apps being used to try clear memory. Every now and then Revit clears it for you.

I have an 80 MB file that's a real DOG to open and close, but most are hanging round that size until they go into CDs and are fine. up to 150 MB for CDs... we're specifying much larger computers now for Revit users than we were for our AutoCAD users.

Our jobs in SD/DD are running about 70-90 MB, I've noticed some improvements in save time with 8.1. Overall performance generally seems to be improved. Keep up the good work.

ZEDS can you explain how you clear the memory using the defrag app. I've noticed my page faults in excess of 15 gigs after a day of heavy reviting. I usually just shut down and restart and that clears it. But I'd love to know a way to clear it at mid day.

Thanks

Scott, apps such as "System Mechanic" or " Ad-Aware, have got built in Ram defragers as well as "Recover Ram" options. No more shutting down.
