Is it possible to have Revit open without opening template. 99% of the time you just want to open an existing project.
Thanks.

Under your settings--->options, click on file location tab and remove the name of your template from the path. Now every time you open Revit you will get a message saying it can't find it. Click ok and then you are ready to go....

The only problem would be when you want to start a new project and try and use Ctrl + N function. There will be now file to use.

OR

Open your default template and purge everything, delete all the views etc. and save as a new default template. Point Revit to that one from here on out and it will open as quick as possible without error messages.

And for that 1% of the time you want to start a new project go to File | New | and select your complany template and you are off and running.

Yes that would be a problem  Typically we have more than one template users choose from so they are used to selecting a template instead of hitting the new button on the toolbar and using the default one. But yes you are correct, you would take that ability away from someone by doing it that way.

I just saw someone opening their AutoCAD program and it started with the option of
1. New
2. Open
and a list of files, if i remember correctly. Never thought i would like something in AutoCAD more than Revit.
Small issue, just thought I'd ask the question.
Cheers.

I did a search before starting the new tread, obviously didn't ask the right question?
Sorry guys.
Cheers.

I understand everything... but... it should not be more easy by the factory do that with a simple command (...revit.exe /n)? We are here to discuss how & why and wasting time while for them I think they could do it as a snapshot...
