Shared Parameter for Drawing Sheet Order

Architects have always used a variety of means of ordering the drawing disciplines in a set of construction documents, almost never in a numerical sequence. Civil, Architectural, Structural, or Civil, Landscape, Structural, Architectual etc, So how do you get Revit to order the sheets this way?. This tutorial shows you one way to do this.

As always, comments and questions are welcome.

NOTE: THIS METHOD IS NOT WHAT YOU WANT TO DO. :!: Simply add the parameter to the schedule you need sorted. The shared parameter is NOT required. :Oops:

Thank you for that! In fact, here in Tucson, Jake (ArchJake) came up with a similar approach that I now use. He added a sheet parameter for 'Discipline' which inlcuded a numbering system which allows you to insert a number if need, such as maybe for Kitchen Equipment and such which you may not use in most projects. (10 Civil, 20 Landscape, 30 Architecture, 40 Structuraral...etc.) That way, in your sheet's properties, you could just add the discipline and then sort your sheet index by that with the discipline field hidden.

I remember Jake's tutorial. That was good information coupled with a good on screen organization.Kind of a double whammy. I sometimes deal with a few folks who are kind of anal about the way things are done, so this tutorial was to show a way to a "blind" way of organizing without messing with the office numbering system.

Fwiw, a shared parameter is only needed if you actually want the "order" parameter as a field on the sheet to edit. Otherwise, just adding a project parameter or just adding a parameter while creating the drawing list (does the same thing as creating a project parameter) will provide the field to sort on. You edit the value in a schedule or in the view properties, so most of the time the value doesn't need to be part of the sheet family. Saves a bunch of steps anyway...

Cool, I'll check that out (never hurts to learn new stuff). Thanks for the heads up. (That's what happens late at night, you don't think straight, just the same ole' way kicks in). (Kinda like drawing

OK, checked it out. There is a better way. I'll pull the tutorial and rework it this weekend. This way (as posted) is more complicated than necessary. 9-23-05

like Steve said, you just add a project parameter to you index schedule. Then add your ordering numbers to this parameter and set it to sort by it. I was doing it this way before our firm developed the method that I had posted my own tutorial on. I still like my method better. :)

Like I said in the post above, I was wrong. :) I just haven't had time to correct the tutorial. Your method I'm sure will suffice.
