The rumors are true.

When we release a new standalone batch DWG conversion tool we will also be releasing a free Autodesk DWG file viewer. The dates are delayed from a mentioned September 21st date. Autodesk is committed to delivering the highest quality products for our customers so please stay tuned for a future announcement about the products’ release.

Mike is there anything new on this viewer. I've got people here very interested in getting one. At the moment everything is being created in AutoCAD 2006 and has to be saved down to AutoCAD 2000 for ECO review.

This is what I've gotten from Michael Perry at AUGI about the viewer.

The Free AutoCAD viewer from AutoDesk was to be released on September 21. It has been delayed. No idea of new released date. Please reference link below:

Okay now I am confused. The website has it listed as a viewer that can view DWG files. This seems to be what I need for two people that review ECO's on screen. What do you mean by file converter?

It's not a viewer - it requires a copy of AutoCAD to be installed.
What it will do is - allow R14 to open a file created in A2006 or allow A2006 to save as R13, or R10, etc..

Okay I get it. The DWGgateway software is a file converter that works within any version of AutoCAD. It is not a stand alone viewer. Note: I've sent two e-mails to DWGgateway to ask them if this is the case and I haven't gotten a response.

DWGgateway is a dwg and pdf file converter, and you need autocad to use it. There is another program on the solidworks website called edrawing viewer, which allows you to view dwg files.

I have downloaded and tried both programs and both are NOT worth the download.

The only good thing is the dwg conversion which I haven't needed in two years.

Both programs have a very difficult user interface.

We have reviewed a few that Mike Perry mentioned in an email to me. At the moment
TrueView™ from Autodesk is in the lead. The only problem that I have heard from the people reviewing it here is that the drawing is in color and they would like it in Black & White.

I don't have TrueView in front of me at the moment, but the following trick (work around) might work (seeing as you can access the Page Setup dialog box in TrueView, if my memory is serving me correctly)...

All entities in the layout (and entities showing in a viewport) show up black & white. (http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=22338) from the AutoCAD FAQ (http://forums.augi.com/forumdisplay.php?f=189) forum - Just reverse the logic for your requirements.
