ok I'm scratching my head with this one...
why oh why do I see the stair on the lower level when my view setting are set correctly? In the past plan region would be the main suspect but i have none in this view, even if i put a plan region on the stair and adjust heights it does nothing, nada, zilch, klum...
any ideas?
thanks.

Not just 8.1, has been that way for a long time, I'm afraid.
You will need to use a filled region.

If I understand your problem correctly, the part of your stair above the cut line is showing up. If that's the case, you can uncheck the visibility of "stairs beyond cut line" in the visibility dialog box for this particular view.

I think Eldad is talking about the stair on the lower level being visible even though the View properties are set to display depth only to the floor level.

Yes, I'm talking about the stair under, Field region is way too much work when you have 4 stairs over a few levels...
wonder if the factory is going to do anything on it??

I still cannot believe this issue has not been resolved yet. What building does not have a set of stairs? There are about a dozen topics on this stretching back to 2003. To that end can we get this fixed? Also, if I make a concrete monolithic stair, I want to be be able to join other elements to this stair - walls, floors the whole thing. Please factory can we get this fixed. Field regions are only temporary workarounds, and then there are the sections that need fixing, internal elevations, linework, and not even mentioning 3D's.

second and third that!
been asking to be able to attach walls to stairs for ages now. I think the main problem is that stairs are not in the floor category, but changing them into floors will create a whole new set of problems to the programmers...
it is time to have stairs that we can attach to, show materials on, behave like stairs should and look good! please factory any hope there?

Me also it's a long time I ask to get this fixed. Monolitic stairs should join to other elements such floors, walls and so on, not to talk about to attach from / to.
I think now it's time to fix&improve this situation, too much users are asking for that.

Hey there,
Put me down for a "yes" vote on that one too!

Another yes for me. It adds fuel to the fire that Revit cannot produce good construction documents. We argue that point often, and have had this thrown in our face by a few consultants and contractors. Seems simple to me, just have the floor slab hide the stair when it is below.
I wonder how old this wish is. Kind of like the wish to have handrails hide stairs. I think that if it hasn't been fixed by now there must be a reason. Maybe there are some things that Revit is just not capable of. It would be nice to know for certain that it isn't ever going to be fixed so we could all save our collective breath wishing for it.

...if I recall the handrail issue was discussed by the factory. Internally the handrail is being generated with symbolic lines in plan - not 3d geometry, so they can't hide anything. My guess is that the other plan representations are symbolic linework as well and there is just some general plane being used to do the basic hiding of other objects.
