I am at a loss as how to accomplish this simple balluster configuration,
this suggests to me that either I am really thick (quite possible) or the baluster/handrail system is much to difficult to understand, any help?

File is too large even purged and zipped, but have a look at the attached images. ( Metric sizes approximating Imperial )
Place the 3/4" balusters in a pattern, 4 " apart, that repeats after the correct number of balusters are placed and make the last baluster a 4 " post.
Place a beginning and an end 4" post also, the lower part of the dialogue box.
Set the justification to center.
Experiment with the excess fill settings if you need to.
Another method would be to make the 3/4" balusters as a baluster panel family and insert that into the pattern between the 4" posts.

You can create your one repeating 3/4" ballaster @ 4" and a post at just the begining, and a corner post so its set up for corners, then just split your sketch line @ 4' increments or wherever you need a post. For the last segment duplicate a new style that contains an end post also.

Interesting approach Mike.
Isn't it easier to do it in the one dialogue ? ( Having said that, I sometimes use one pattern overlaying another to achieve a fast result )

My method is very fast and enables you to set a post anywhere you want without editing the railing style. Also you can simply divide any run into equal segments with the equal dim tool. I'm thinking Revit intended it this way - no?

Hmmm, if you say say so... you need to load or create two baluster patterns, split the sketch line into segments, then load and locate the posts and set their height..
Repeat the process again if the railing length changes, or if the top or bottom rail offset changes.
If the pattern is all in the one dialogue, you're covered for changes and different lengths, as well as not needing to split the sketch up.

Upon further review it is the corner post set to "Each Segment End" that sets the post at a split. In this case I am able to use one rail style with the same post at the start, corner & end, make my splits and I'm done.

Thanks for the tip works beautifully.

You are right jwilhelm, the railing dialogue is about as confusing as it gets. What $9.95 deck programs do with ease, Revit just doesn't get it and niether do I. It really needs a hard look at for simlicity sake and less confusion. It really needs to have a visual editor attached so you can build panels in it that automatically save into the family directory.

Is this not a common proceedure used by others? If not I will post in T&T
