Here is what I'm trying to do....

I want to link my callouts to my details so that they can update automatically if i change any information on the details' labels. I have no idea if there is a field or an attribute, or if it is even possible to do. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Next help item...

Is there a program that can do a count and make up a legend?

Look into sheet sets for the callouts and details.

I'm not sure on the legend. Are you wanting a count as well?

OK maybe i worded it wrong or i think this is a better way to word it. Is there a way to make a field read text and update if that text is edited?

With a condensed testing, it does not work on dtext entities. The contents option is there in the field dialog box, but I could not get it to display after exiting out of the edit.

I gave this a shot (R2006) and had no problem. I created the text with an object field, used the contents property and it updates without a problem. Do you have the latest service patch?
However, I agree wholeheartedly, this is a job for Sheet Set Manager. Try a search of the forms for Sheet Set Manager and fields.

I'm not sure if I have installed that. I haven't had any problems so far, and had not thought about installing that.

 No, I did not. I need to work on my testing procedures. I was doing it as I was creating the text entity and therefore didn't think about it.

This thread may help you find the patch. And this post should be even closer.

This should get you straight to the web page AutoCAD 2006 SP1 (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/item?siteID=123112&id=5843771&linkID=2475323) Just make sure it is the right product you don't need this for LDT, ADT, etc (different programs that work in conjunction with AutoCAD).
