Hi all -

Why is it with the structural beam system that it won't put the first and last members in??
If i use the line tool and draw my system boundary in and then exit out of the dialog boes i find that the beams will stop one "space" in from the boundary lines i just drew..!

Does this make sense to anyone?? (I mean my explanation...)

I'd like it to show the beam system/ individual beams right to the boundary i defined
i.e. i want a beam on each "end" of the system.

Is this possible?

TIA

Agreed it should be possible, but the current implementation assumes that the supporting and surrounding perimeter beams are in place and independent of the beam system.

Girders connect to the columns, and support the beam system. Use the grid option to easily place the girders after the columns are in, then use the beam system for in-filling the bays.

Thanks for the replies guys -

I actually use the beam systems a lot to show roof purlins......
in a lot of cases this means that there are no end beams in the same plane as the purlins
and i would like to have a purlin at each end of the system else it means i have to "manually"
place a singular purlin each end of a run.
It's a PITA when you think how simple it would be to have the option of turning off/on the
start/end beams of any given system.

I think it's worth a wish list item (if it's not already).

You could just sketch the system larger...just a thought.

This thread seems like a fine place to discuss some other beam system issues. Here is a note that I posted on Autodesk RS forum (before i was directed to augi). It seems like this is a simliar issue to the purlin situation:

I added a beam system consisting of HSS 2 1/2x 2 1/2 (joist substitutes for a 4'-8" span) When I insert the HSS at elevation 0" (w.r.t. level 2 in this case), the analytical model lines up with the supporting beam but the graphical representation of the member is (to centerline of the HSS) 4" below the analytical model. Anybody run into this? Then, I adjust the elevation to +5 1/4" to put the HSS bearing on the steel and the analytical model is above the beam it bears on. How do I move the analytical model down? I do the "Adjust Analytical Model" command and try and select the beam system but cannot effect an adjustment. ?? Same-ish problem with the joists... their analytical model is 2.5" above the beam they "sit" on. Should be able to move this down? Or will it pick this up in the transistion to analysis package?
