I have a stacked wall in my project. I am trying to demolish the top 3 feet of it in order to change the roof line of the building. Since I can't demolish only part of wall I have been trying to split the wall with a horizontal split line and then demolish the upper piece. The process works fine for all other wall types but I can't get it to work with the stacked wall. I should add that vertical split lines work fine.

It seems like the demolish tool could use some work.

Any Suggestions ?

Fwiw, the demo tool only does what you can do yourself by editing the properties of an object, it just does it "quicker". By this I mean to change the value of the parameter "Phase Demolished" to match the phase of the view you used the tool in.

If you need to model the existing building to support demolishing specific pieces of it, you'll need to model it that way. Meaning you need to make the piece you want to demo separately so it is "free" to be demolished.

You could edit the profile of the wall to remove the portion and add notes or use the Opening feature. Follow up with placing just a small piece of wall of the correct type to infil the hole left behind, then demo that wall.

Horizontal split is not supported on stacked walls. Here is why:

Once you split a wall you get two walls of the same type.
Now in case of stacked walls it would mean that subwalls will start to stack again at the horizontal split height. I doubt that would be useful.

You can always break up the stacked wall into its components with the right click "Break Up" command. Now you can split the top subwall only if you wish.

Isaacarus, that is how you do it.

When you "build" your original structure you will need to use the split tool to split walls etc and you will need to delimit as separate areas demolished portions of roofs, slabs, floors etc so they can be demolished appropriately in later stages. If you do it this way the "Demo" hammer works perfectly.

Defining demolition is not an easy process in any application, but in Revit it works really well and phasing makes the process even better. I use these tools a lot!

Great information guys,

I agree, I really like the phasing tools, it is just taking some time to get the hang of them.

Thanks for the help
