Linework tool glitches?

I'm trying to use the linework tool to make my elevation more readable. However, I've found that once I've used the tool on a line that was originally partially obscured, the line becomes unobscured and is no longer hidden by objects in front of it.
Anyone else have this problem?
Any explanations?

Have you adjusted the new linework with one of the blue dots shown on either end after you click the line to change? You can adjust the length of the new linework with those blue dots.
