View Full Version : Code information in Room Tags

I am trying to get code information to display in a room tag as well as in my schedule.
I have been creating complex code schedules to help me with occupant loads and exiting requirements. We would now like this information to display in a tag in the room. We are also hoping to get this data in the door tag in the future. However I am having trouble with a couple of the values, and after searching the forums think I am screwed but would like to see if anybody else has been able to accomplish this.

Schedule
ROOM | NAME | OCCUPANCY | LOAD FACTOR | AREA | TOTAL OCCUPANTS | EGRESS WIDTH | NUMBER OF EXITS

Tag (see attached image)

I can get the name, number, area, load factor on the tag but not any of the other values. Load factor is a key value, egress width total and exits are calculated. Is there any way to get those values on a tag?

Thanks

I don't think what you are trying to do is possible at this time. Have you checked out THIS (http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=2249&highlight=calculated+values+tags) thread?

You must enter this information manually to have it show in a tag. See the other thread about how to make this easier.

I thought as much, figured maybe someone had come up with a workaround. I really wish we could get rid of the different types of parameters and allow us to schedule, tag and share any parameter inside the project and get rid of shared parameters. It will make life easier for me and probably others as well.

OK,

So I cannot get all of my code schedule information to "Automatically" display in my code tag. How can I get the tag to allow me to manually enter the information either directly in the tag or in the room properties window? I have tried shared parameters and adding parameters to the schedule. I can get these to show in the room properties and the schedule but not the tags. It would appear I need to get the parameter in the tag to match the parameter in the room. How do I do this. Please see my attached tag.

Thanks

Making some Room Style Key Schedules might help some. Have you tried using this method?

No tried that. Is there any way to make a "dumb" tag parameter?

Yes. When you make a Key Schedule you are pre-choosing various 'dumb' parameters that will be stored in the tag it's applied to. It fills the information out for you.

For example you make make a key schedule called "Water Closets for Group F". Under that you would have lines which have occupants and number of water closets needed (a custom parameter). As you make lines they become available in a dropdown in the individual tags under 'Other'. That info would then be available in your regular schedule.

We discussed this a bit in THIS THREAD (http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?p=141742).

Steve,

I agree that it is necessary for us in the future to be able to control ALL the data in the project. However is there any way for me to dumb enter the data in the tag? Even if I have to type the data in each tag one by one it is better than the alterntive of a huge schedule that the building department will not read and write me up on every room. I am thinking I will need to make a simple annotation object that has editable text objects for me to fill out.

The tag you manually fill in is exactly what is discussed in the thread that Steve links to.

Basically, you have a schedule that has two columns for the code info. One column is what Revit can calculate for you automatically, and the second column is what you fill in manually, which will update the tag. In the schedule, you simply make the blank column match the values of the calclated values, and the tags will be filled out.

I havent tried any of this but would have thought you need the "dumb" info fields in the object the tag is tagging - then you could fill it in and the tag will "report" it - it'll also schedule then - if its say done in the room object? not 100% sure but just what i have picked up.

I can get the schedule portion to work, but I cannot get the information into the tag. The field needs to be in the tag family to be a parameter. I tried adding an shared parameter but the value will not update.

Hey there,
If I remember correctly, archjake (jake) solved this. I am not sure he ever posted his solution; however, I do remember talking to him about it. You could PM him to ask.

Good luck
Steve

With Steve's help I solved the problem. The key was adding the shared parameters to both the project and tag, and checking the add to all of this type box in the dialog otherwise you will not be able to edit the fields after you add them.

Thanks everybody for your assistance.

Hi,

I borrowed the code tag rfa that cphubb posted in this thread and am having a strange issue when attempting to use it. I can load the family and edit it just fine, but when I use the room/area tool to try to place this tag object, revit simply vanishes in a "fast exit." Since this thread was posted a few versions ago, I am wondering whether this is a bug based on my not having the shared parameters defined in my project prior to the placement of the tag.

Has anyone run across this? I don't see any further discussions on the subject so I am assuming people are having continuing success with this that I am unable to recreate. (Our build # is 20060518_2300)

Any assistance would be appreciated.

i can't seem to find this 'add to all of this type'. i'm also not able to edit my new parameter. can you show me where this is? thanks in advance.
