View Full Version : Dimension Round Off Problem

Hello to All AUGI Members:

I have encountered a problem on drawings we received from a consultant on one of our projects. We received a drawing that contained numerous dimensions with the precision set to 1/8" and the round off set to 0".

There are a few dimensions where the actual distance is 14'-8 1/2" but the dimension value reads 14'-8 5/8". As soon as you attempt to do anything with the dimension the value changes to 14'-8 1/2". Even if you remove the dimension associativity the value still changes.

I realize that the dimension settings will try to round off the dimension value down to the closest number, is there a way to have a dimension override that will have the value round up...??...or is there another way to fix this problem.

On this project the consultant wants us to use their dimensions however, as soon as we attempt to do anything with these dimensions the values change.

Any suggestions....!!!

Are you inserting the consultants drawings into your drawing? Do you have the same dimension style names? If so your dimension styles are probably overriding the consultant's dimension styles.

Hi

Check what the drawing units are set to ie LUPREC.

The drawing might be reporting 14'-8 1/2" but actually drawn differently ie It could be a drawing accuracy issue / problem.

Have a good one, Mike

No we are not inserting the consultants drawing into our drawing but we are cutting and pasting the dimensional input into one of our drawings. However, we have changed the Dim variables of our dimensions to match the consultants except for the color and layer name.

As far as I can tell, the actual physical line that is being dimensioned is 14'-8 9/16" in length but the dimension display is 14'-8 5/8". The minute I do anything with that dimension such as a cut and paste the dimension value changes to 14'-8 1/2" and I can not get it to go back to 14'-8 5/8". As mentioned above the precision is 1/8" and the round off is 0".

The automatic dimension is rounding down from 14'-8 9/16" to 14'-8 1/2" and other than changing the actual dimensioned length is there a way to have the dimension display round up from 14'-8 9/16" to 14'-8 5/8".

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Regards,
Vince

Hi

Is it possible to post an example drawing file that demonstrates the behaviour you describe?

Personally I might not be that much help due to the Imperial units ~ shudder ~ being used, but I will try my best to help...

Have a good one, Mike

If you change the DDUNITS precision to a smaller fraction, does that help? Another option would be to start a totally new dimension style, and get everything set the way you want it. Set that dimstyle current. Then isolate the dim strings, and type in DIM, then UP. Select all of the dimstrings you want changed, and see if that helps.
