This has happened to me a few times and I thought maybe it was my mistake. Finally I know it's not!!!
What has been happening is that I will do a render then "capture" to save the render within the file. I will even save the file at least once right afterwards. But I just noticed that when closing Revit then re-starting Revit and opening that file again that the rendering was Not captured.
This is not the biggest of deals since I don't usually use the rendering again, but if I did need to then I would have to do another raytrace!!!

Has this happened to anyone else???

I never capture renderings to a file as i've found it adds unnecessary file size. I always export.

Unfortunately i don't have a copy of revit 8.1 at home to check this little gripe... so can't check til monday.

I just tried it again and it did not do it this time.
It's happened to me many times so it's not a fluke thing.
I think it might be when you capture a rendering and there is already a previous rendering of the same name. Revit will ask if you wish to replace the file and of course the answer is yes.
When I just tried it and it worked, I did delete the previous rendering instead of "replacing" it. Maybe that's the key!?

Actually i do remember experiencing that in V. 7... and that was my deduction as well. To remove the existing captured rendering of the same name first.

I wonder if this bug was ever reported to support...
